The snow is here… and with it this year comes a whole host of apps to make the mountains even more exciting!
MEETMOUNT: YOU’RE ALWAYS IN GOOD COMPANY
This app connects people who want to enjoy the mountains together, whatever their preferred activity. You can organise an event yourself or join those already planned – just select the location and date and start having fun with everyone else who’s interested. And it’s not just for the classic winter sports: you can also take part in or organise gentle summer walks or adventurous trails by mountain bike.
SKI TRACKS: MEASURE YOUR DESCENT
Ski Tracks provides all the information you could possibly need on your skiing performance. The parameters available include “maximum speed reached”, “distance travelled”, “piste gradient”, “altitude”, and much more besides. Available for both iOS and Android.
SKIIINFO NEVE & SCI: TWO THOUSAND SKI RESORTS AROUND THE WORLD
This is an app providing information on over two thousand ski resorts, in Italy and abroad. Using GPS you can find all the ski resorts nearest to your location, together with current snow statistics and those for previous years. You can do a live check on snow conditions via webcam, and find out where there’s new snow using the “Fresh Snow” feature. And for a finishing flourish to your descent, upload your photos from the slopes live on Facebook! Available for iOS only.
NAVIONICS SKI: ALL THE MAPS YOU NEED, ALSO OFFLINE.
The hugely popular Navionics Ski gives you info on thousands of ski resorts all over the world, using maps also featuring satellite view. Using GPS localisation you can find refuges, hire centres and pistes both near your current location and overseas. It’s worth knowing that once you’ve downloaded the map you want you won’t need an Internet connection! You can also save your skiing performance statistics and use them to improve. Other information features available include “Weather Forecasts” (daily and weekly), “Snow”, “Ski Lifts” and “Pistes Open”. Available for iOS only.
