PEDALING UP IN WINTER: YOU CAN WITH DRYARN®!

26/02/2018

“Cycling is for winter”. Three suggestions to prepare effectively for the cycling season.

Contrary to popular opinion, the cold is sometimes easier to endure during climbs and descents than on flat courses.

This is essentially due to 2 reasons. The first regards the thermal inversion that affects mountain areas on sunny winter days. The coldest and most polluted air tends to sit at the bottom of the valley where it mixes with micro-particles, generates mist and blocks the sun’s rays. The other reason is more intuitive and regards the higher calorie consumption and heat generated by the effort of the climb. As soon as a climb has been completed the essential thing is to cover up well and perhaps change out of wet clothes.

A mountain bike is clearly preferable to a racing bike since it involves lower speeds, engages a larger number of muscles – also in the upper body – and permits more agile gear selection, helpful for “finding your feet” at the start of the season.

All of these suggestions are valid provided you pay close attention to your clothing. If the movement of the leg muscles and perspiration keep the temperature constant, while sweat is rapidly produced at the same time, the back and pelvis areas (which are usually covered by several layers of clothing according to the weather) can – depending on the altitude – be subject to thermal imbalances through impact with the air.

Choosing the right configuration of garments allows these to interact with each other, activating the functional properties of the fibres. The high-performance technical characteristics of products made with Dryarn® (totally or even just partially), create a feeling of comfort that is noticeable even after the first few kilometres and even with increased perspiration and effort, enabling the athlete to focus exclusively on his/her performance.

Happy cycling!
