Aldo Mazzocchi – Across Kamchatka 2015

16/09/2015

Aldo Mazzocchi’s latest adventure took place in the wonderful, uncontaminated and rugged Kamchatka Penunsula. At his side once again was Dryarn, now a faithful companion of adventure for this lawyer from Brescia who divides his time between his profession and a passion for adventure.

An adventure in this case with the flavour of an expedition: tents, field kitchens, huge amounts of equipment to carry and a programme destined to be continually “adjusted”, day-by-day and hour-by-hour, in accordance with weather conditions and the inevitable surprises that an experience like this can spring…

Cycling, climbing and paragliding to scale 5 volcanoes (Vilyukinsky – 2,173 m.a.s.l., Gorely – 1,829 m.a.s.l., Avachinsky – 2,741 m.a.s.l., Tolbachik – 3,672 m.a.s.l. and Mutnovsky – 2,323 m.a.s.l.) and cycling the 800 km of rough terrain that separates them.

The harsh weather conditions made it a particularly challenging and rewarding experience, especially in view of the fact that tented camps were nearly always set up, with no possibility to dry clothes or shoes, at near-freezing temperatures.

The members of the team will always carry in their hearts and minds the memory of an uncontaminated and sparsely populated land, where animals (bears, reindeer, elk, squirrels, salmon, marmots, eagles…) still live freely in their own environment.

But as soon as they’re back it’s already time to think about the next adventure. Where will Aldo take us next?
