Four secrets for really comfortable cycling

 

1 Motivation

It isn’t difficult to start using your bike every day to get around:

you keep fit

you save money

you’re more relaxed

you save time

Motivation is crucial because human beings are creatures of habit, and to make a change in your life you need an inner drive. Without the right motivation you can’t change your habits.

It’s all about weighing up whether changing this habit is worth it: if you’re reading this article you probably already know the answer!

 

2 Regularity

“How can you achieve a goal? Without hurrying but without resting”, said Goethe.

Once you’ve resolved that you want to use your bicycle to get about, all you have to do is to use it regularly.

This will enable you to achieve the well-being, money-saving and time-saving goals that you’ve set yourself.

 

3 Thoughtful clothing

Cycling every day is a pleasure. If you want it to stay that way you need to think carefully about some details that will enable you to always pedal in comfort.

This is where a key role is played by clothing, or more precisely everything that touches your skin. You already know what outer layers to wear depending on weather conditions. But base layers are the ones that really make the difference and enable you to cycle in real comfort.

Underwear has to be both insulating and breathable. Insulating to maintain a constant body temperature, breathable to effectively expel moisture and keep the body dry.

4 Your bicycle

And then there’s your bike, your vehicle and companion.

Two aspects are crucial in everyday cycling: the bike’s safety and comfort.

For safety the best advice is to go to a mechanic you trust to do the initial set-up and regular maintenance.

For the highest possible safety be sure to take these small precautions: always check the tyre pressure, the proper working of the brakes and the stability of all 5 resting points (pedals, saddle, handlebar).

As for comfort, first of all you need to identify the type of bicycle that best meets your needs, assessing where you’ll use it and your own characteristics.

As a general rule there are two key aspects to consider for a comfortable bike and a pleasant cycling experience: the correct frame size and the choice of components, particularly the wheels and the tyres.

Once you’ve decided the right type of bike, just enjoy peddling!
