How to keep you healthy and active during the summer..even if you don’t have time for sport!

In the summer everyone’s on holiday… sometimes also with a desire to keep fit!
The heat wears you down while the temptations of summer, like ice cream or slush, are there ready to ambush your figure. After months of eating correctly and sweating in the gym how can we continue along the path to dazzling form?

Here are some tips for maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle during the summer, even when you have no time for sport.

Walk!

The first piece of advice is to try to walk as much as possible, choosing the stairs instead of the lift and going without the car for short journeys – why not go by bicycle? Being physically active is important, and not just for your figure. Sport helps to prevent joint pain and illness, keeping our body healthy in every way. Walking is the simplest of physical activities and is beneficial against hypertension, excess weight, diabetes and stress. Thanks to the weather, summer is also the ideal time for spending more time outdoors and in contact with nature.

Drink plenty of water

Drinking is essential. It’s something we often overlook, but that’s a mistake that we can’t afford. Water is the most fundamental item in the food pyramid. But why is it so important? For three simple reasons: our body mainly consists of water; it’s essential to the performance of all physiological processes within our body; the correct water balance is fundamental to good health. And this on its own underlines the need to drink enough water, an average of 1.5 or 2 litres a day, especially during the summer.

Monitor your diet

Summertime, thanks to its mild temperatures, is the ideal period for eating more fruit and – above all – vegetables in-season. So it’s the green light for new colours and flavours, but never skimp on complete meals containing all the essential macro-nutrients: carbohydrates, proteins and fats should never be lacking in a balanced diet!
