Summer is officially upon us and, with the arrival of warmer weather and the holidays, it’s time to decide where to go for some well-deserved rest.
If the seaside and the beach are most people’s idea of rest and fun, spending the holiday on a mountain bike is the cherished dream of all outdoor and cycling enthusiasts.
Our beautiful Italy has lots of mountain bike routes to offer, varying in difficulty and duration, which are ideal for holidays over several days or for shorter excursions. Here we’ve selected 3.
- LIGURIA – FINALE LIGURE, LOCALITA’ LE MANIE
Immersed in the countryside inland of Finale Ligure, between Noli and Spotorno, is Località Le Manie, a real paradise for mountain biking. Tight hairpin bends with breathtaking views of the sea, steep climbs and descents but also straight runs immersed in the greenery of the Ligurian forests. There are dozens of trattorias and local restaurants ready to welcome cyclists for a break with local delicacies and, with a little luck, you may come across some local fauna on the way.
- TUSCANY – ISLAND OF ELBA
Beautiful, evocative and unspoilt, the Island of Elba is a real gem of the Tyrrhenian coast. In addition to the wonderful beaches there are several mountain bike routes, all of medium difficulty and suitable for both expert and occasional cyclists.
There’s a mix of asphalt and gravel roads, paths through the woods and coastal routes offering breathtaking views of the sea.
- VENETO – BIBIONE
In the collective imagination, Bibione – in Veneto – is synonymous with wide golden beaches, beach volleyball courts and the sea. But that’s not all! Bibione is also the starting point for several routes and itineraries, ideal for mountain, gravel and racing bikes. These routes are generally easy and suitable for all, the right compromise between a sporting holiday and relaxation.
