THE 5 TOP MOUNTAIN SPAS

23/11/2017

Do you ever dream of taking some time all for yourself or of just enjoying the mountains in a different way? There’s one single type of destination that caters to many different needs: the mountain spa! Here are five enchanting oases of well-being… that you’ll never want to leave.

ALPENROYAL GRAND HOTEL & GOURMET: ONE MICHELIN STAR (Selva di Val Gardena, South Tyrol). A wellness centre of 5 thousand square meters, right in the heart of the Dolomites. It offers a wide choice of treatments including different types of waters, saunas, fitness areas and relaxation zones. Well worth a try are the aromatic salt steam bath, the sauna with hay or alpine herbs and the panoramic Finnish sauna. The hotel also has a Michelin-starred gourmet restaurant run by chef Mario Porcelli.

RELAIS & CHATEAUX HERMITAGE HOTEL & SPA: UNLIMITED LUXURY (Cervinia, Valle d’Aosta). The award-winning Hermitage Hotel & Spa in Cervinia came first in the “Global” (worldwide) category of luxury spas at the World Luxury Awards festival in Qatar. But its fame doesn’t stop there: it’s also one of the few spas in the world working in collaboration with La Prairie, the prestigious Swiss brand of cellular serums made with precious materials (gold, platinum, extract of caviare). Spa peeling services using Dead Sea salt, muds, hydrotherapy, massages, and much more besides can be personalised on request.

POSTHOTEL: PHYSICAL WELL-BEING (Achenkirch, Austria). A true paradise in the Austrian Tyrol near Innsbrück. With as many as ten pools (including two using water enriched with mountain salt), a 7 thousand square metre spa with a women’s only area, six saunas and steam baths, a meditation room and much, much more! Well worth trying is its Signature Treatment, a series of head massages using arnica and Swiss pine oil, acupressure and a gentle head-to-toe massage.

HOTEL STROBLHOF: RELAXATION FOR ALL THE FAMILY (Val Passiria, Alto Adige). This hotel, located just twenty minutes from the spa town of Merano, stands out for its family and spa services. It attaches great importance to children’s needs, with exciting activities designed just for them as well as an indoor pool and a Whirlpool. Not to be missed is a large Finnish sauna with views of the Jaufen Pass and a herbal bio-sauna, this too with breathtaking panoramic views.

AUBERGE DE LA MAISON: (Entreves, Val d’Aosta). An elegant dwelling in stone and wood situated in Entreves, overlooking Mont Blanc. At the Spa Maison d’Eau you’ll find both an outdoor and an indoor pool with waterfall, hydro-massage, colour therapy, a Finnish sauna and a steam bath. Also recommended is the Refuge du Mont-Blanc featuring a hay bio-sauna, hydro-massage and beds of mountain flowers and herbs.
