MTB: BENEFITS AND EQUIPMENT FOR SPRING OUTDOOR SPORTS

07/04/2021

With the arrival of spring, it’s time for outdoor sports once more.

Covid-19 restrictions leave little scope for group outings, but we still have one faithful ally for our springtime escapes: MTB. So now is the moment to pump up your tyres and get on your bike to seek out natural trails and the many benefits that cycling brings.

MTB is an absolute cure-all for the whole body. Cycling engages all the muscles in your arms and legs and is a great way to maintain a healthy heart. Simply put it’s a complete workout that’s great fun and good for the mind as well.

Cycling in the open air, whether along paths through green countryside or on dirt tracks, has innumerable psychological benefits. It helps you disconnect from the outside world, reducing stress while focusing on your objective: some steep and rough trails call for the utmost concentration on a mountain bike.

Another crucial aspect to consider for the first rides of the season is your equipment, including clothing, accessories and bike maintenance tools.

An under-saddle bag to carry a spare inner tube and all you need for repairs; a pump to inflate the tyres when necessary, an essential mini tool kit and a water bottle: hydration is key!  Here are some useful tips for choosing the right water bottle.

Personal protection is also vital! The right helmet is a must-have, as are glasses which – as well as protecting you from the sun and wind – also protect your eyes from insects and branches that you might hit at high speed.

As for clothing, the best advice is to choose just a few lightweight, comfortable and breathable items, which must also accompany and not restrict your movements while maintaining a constant body microclimate.
