TIPS FOR KEEP RUNNING IN THE AUTUMN

21/10/2021

As we know, running is a year-round sport.

We can run in summer, spring, autumn and even in the snow. We can run in the city but also in the mountains, choosing unpaved routes that may be challenging and harder for novices.

In autumn especially, with the first rains and first frosts, paths may start to contain hidden dangers. It is therefore better to be prepared, trained and properly equipped for running even at this time of year.

To start with, it is very important to choose the right clothing.

In autumn, it is normal for there to be sudden changes of weather and temperature, so it is important to wear few but light, comfortable and breathable garments that will keep the body at the right temperature. Choosing the right shoes is also vital and should not be neglected. It is good to make sure we are wearing comfortable shoes suitable for the type of running and the terrain.

Once kitted out and dressed appropriately, it’s time to set off.

Whether we have had a summer break or whether we have continued to run, it’s good practice to keep training because, as the seasons change, so does the terrain and the routes we are used to. Mountain paths in open areas and through woods that are shady in summer can become slippery in autumn.

Before going off on a trip or taking part in a competition, it is useful to concentrate on training.

Starting slowly and gradually speeding up is an excellent way to train. Alongside increasing speed, it is good to do some muscle strengthening and proprioception exercises. Hydration is also vitally important and not only during physical activity. Drinking a lot all the time helps to keep body and tissues hydrated, so that we can perform better while running and in general during any physical activity.

Here is some advice on effective training and strengthening.
