Getting back on the ski slopes: the perfect skiwear

19/01/2017

Here are some tips on how to choose the perfect attire to face the cold of the ski slopes.

Getting back on the ski slopes is a date that many people reward themselves each year, but many still do not know how best to conquer the mountain when it comes to skiwear.

It seems like something to be taken for granted, but the “how to get ready for the slopes” is not just a problem that afflicts beginners. Most regulars may not realize that they are naively committing serious mistakes in their choice of the right apparel.

To better face a day on the ski slopes you have to think first and foremost about our body’s needs. To that end we must first of all think about comfort and then choose items that offer the best technical features.

Let’s see some fundamental features so you can dress like experts.

Waterproof boots

Our body’s extremities, such as the hands and feet, are those to which we must pay the most attention, especially as regards thermal regulation. For this, attention must be given of the fact that the outer layer of the boots must by necessity be waterproof in order to prevent water from getting to the feet. To make sure your feet stay warm, find the right pair of socks. Look for socks that are able to maintain normal body temperature and move sweat away from the body at the same time.

Waterproof clothing

The need for waterproof clothing arises from the fact that the whole body has to maintain the proper body temperature (not just the extremities). For that reason you should choose items that are able to expel excess moisture and sweat. In this way, thanks to thermal insulation, the body maintains its temperature and is protected from the frigid temperatures on the mountain. The function of waterproof clothing is to transport outside of the fabric all moisture and sweat, in such a way that it can evaporate more quickly and keep the skin dry.

Breathable clothing

Having breathable clothing is the result of choosing the right waterproof clothing. In fact, wearing a disproportionate number of layers does not allow the body to feel less cold, be-cause excessive sweating increases the problems relating to changes in body tempera-ture. Choosing the right waterproof clothing allows the skin to breathe regularly and keep your body in total thermal comfort.

Comfort and fit

When choosing clothing to face the ski slopes, one must be aware of the garments’ mate-rial. The fit is very important, especially with regard to the technical features. Always steer towards articles made with high-tech materials. Elasticity is very important, because it al-lows you to get the best fit from your clothes. But be careful, because it can become a double edged sword if you do not choose apparel made from the right material. Some tra-ditional fabrics, with the passage of time, are subject to expansion or shrinkage. For this reason you should choose the latest materials, such as polypropylene microfiber, which in addition to being a very stable fabric, guarantees physical comfort.
