Climb Vars, Izoard, Lamb, Sampeyre, Fauniera, Lombardy, Bonette in less than 24 hours without support
Tackling the 7 Majeurs was more than a sporting feat; it was an epic journey through the Alps, a way of getting to know ourselves and wild nature. With my partner Matteo, we embarked on this adventure with the knowledge that we are not professional athletes, but determined to complete the 360 km with over 10,000 metres of altitude difference in less than 24 hours. Our training proved essential, but we realised that the challenge was not limited to a matter of physical strength: the mind had to be just as strong.
There were many difficulties along the way: from unpredictable weather to mechanical breakdowns, from sore knees to mental fatigue. Every step, every ascent, every descent increasingly became a battle against our desire to stop.
Wearing Dryarn® garments proved to be a winning choice. In fact, this fibre guaranteed lightness, breathability and quick drying, keeping us dry and comfortable even during the most extreme feats. Dryarn® ‘s ability to regulate the body temperature and manage sweat allowed us to focus on the challenge, without being distracted by our clothing.
Each kilometre we travelled brought us closer to our goal, but it also made us reflect on why we were doing all of this. It was not only for the desire to pass a legendary test, but also to rediscover that sense of freedom and connection that you only feel in the saddle of a bicycle. The bicycle is a means that lays you bare, forcing you to come to terms with yourself and the world around you. In the saddle, our thoughts become clearer, our emotions more intense, and our relationships become more profound.
Along the way, we learned the importance of not pushing our body too hard, of listening to the signals it sends and respecting them. We also understood how important it is to feel welcomed by the roads we travel, and here the French Alpine passes taught us a lesson in hospitality that we still struggle to replicate in Italy.
Vars, Izoard, Lamb, Sampeyre, Fauniera, Lombarda, Bonette: these hills have entered the history books of cycling, as well as our hearts. Cycling on these mountains was not just a physical effort, but a way to connect with ourselves and others, an experience that goes beyond sport.
Ultimately, riding the 7 Majeurs was an unforgettable journey, which taught us the importance of facing challenges with determination, preparation and the right equipment. A lesson that goes beyond cycling and can be applied to many life challenges.
