The first cold weather, the first ailments. An unfortunate combination that’s all too common with the arrival of winter, but easy to ward off with some small tricks to avoid having to give up your favourite activities.
Eating food rich in vitamin C, wearing suitable clothes for cold weather but also, above all, getting lots of exercise.
Regularly playing sport in a way that’s in line with your fitness level is a real cure-all for the immune system. To be avoided, on the other hand, are sporadic, “DIY” activities that may be too intense, unsuited to your physical characteristics, and that could simply weaken your immune system to make you more prone to seasonal ailments.
It is generally good practice, but above all when training in winter, to follow a correct eating regime (particularly one rich in vitamin C), to ensure adequate hydration, to lead a healthy lifestyle and to get regular sleep.
This way your body will always be well set up for training and your immune defences will be higher.
Be careful, though! Although it’s an excellent ally in staying healthy, exercise alone cannot totally protect you against seasonal illnesses. If any flu-like symptoms like fever, coughs, colds, aches or exhaustion appear, it’s best to suspend all physical exercise until you’ve fully recovered.
