The Colnago Cycling Festival is an annual event for cycling enthusiasts held on Lake Garda, this year in its tenth edition. Three days packed with events for the whole family: from Junior Bike to the Giro del Lago and concluding with the Granfondo 2.0, the festival’s iconic event.
It’s the Granfondo itself that features some unforgettable roads, one example being the Passo di Capovalle, the highest peak on a long route.
A varied and accessible climb. Riders start in Gargnano and attack the first 500 metres of altitude difference through hairpin bends with unique views of the Benaco. After 7.5 kilometres the route flattens out and enters another dimension. A road squeezed between the rock face on the right and Lake Valvestino on the left: an evocative alpine environment. Having left the lake behind, the road continues to climb for another 400 metres of an easy-pedalling and regular ascent until Valvestino.
Then it becomes a real, little-known but truly evocative climb between the Dolomite rock peaks of the Alto Garda Bresciano park and the Mediterranean lemon trees of the Riviera.
No less spectacular is the descent leading to Idro, technical and full of hairpin bends, on the shores of Idro: the third lake in just 30 km.
If you’re on your bike near Lake Garda you know where to start climbing!
Happy cycling!
