Four “cyclists for passion” of very different ages, geographical origins, personal stories and professions but with a shared dream: to cross Europe on a bicycle saddle.
#DATORINOACAPONORD: 4,200 kilometres in 30 days, 9 countries to cross by bicycle and an average of 144 km a day – a real challenge for four amateur cyclists who are usually engaged in a completely different job.
Emilio Crosignani, a 56 year-old tram driver from Turin; Lucio Tonarini, an 18 year-old student from Buenos Aires; Mauro Maggiora, a head waiter aged 35 from Turin and Giovanni Gherlone, a 33 year-old railway guard from Asti met each other in fortuitous circumstances and, almost for a laugh, decided to plan this remarkable journey together.
Their driving motivations differ, but can be summed up in two great shared passions: travelling and cycling.
In 2013 Emilio cycled solo as far as Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, and, having touched the «South of the World», needs to go to the extreme north to regard his adventure as complete.
Mauro wants to challenge himself and his limitations on a journey of discovery in lands that he has long wished to visit.
Giovanni, after trying fixed gear bikes, racing bikes and cyclo-cross, wants to test himself on a touring bike, while Lucio hopes to realize a dream nurtured since childhood: a bicycle journey after finishing his studies.
Not exactly «a» holiday but «THE» holiday the way they see it: a workout for the body and mind, a unique experience, a totally green journey of discovery to wonderful lands and places inaccessible by any other means.
They’ll set off with a backpack each, two tents, four bags on the bikes, and a great desire to pedal!
