DISCOVERING AUTUMN TREKKING

21/10/2020

The ideal hiking season? Definitely the autumn!

During the months leading up to winter, the weather is not too hot and not yet too cold and is thus perfect for spending entire days walking attractive paths surrounded by the amazing colours and shades of autumn foliage.

Like all outdoor sports, the right preparation is needed before starting to hike. Sometimes, unfortunate events caused by poor preparation can ruin a unique experience.

As with all new sports, it is good to start gradually, choosing easy walks, for example with a maximum ascent of 400 metres and no really steep sections.

It is important to start walking gently, at a slow and measured pace, and then gradually speed up, maintaining a faster but still consistent speed. Learning to adapt your pace to your level of training and the length and difficulty of the route is one of a hiker’s key skills.

Above all, if you are a beginner, walking poles can prove important allies: not only do they help you keep your balance on steeper sections but, above all, they can help relieve the weight of your rucksack so that it does not weigh entirely on your spine.

After managing these first steps, you can start to increase the difficulty and length of your hikes, but do it gradually without overdoing it.

As with all sports, in trekking perseverance is everything. Getting into the habit of going for a walk each weekend, for example, is important for training your body and for gradually being able to undertake more demanding and rewarding hikes. Dryarn has chosen 10 fantastic hikes around Italy

Not only is hiking definitely a demanding activity but it is closely linked to physical and mental wellbeing. Getting into the habit of walking regularly and discovering unique views in close contact with nature is a way of relieving stress and cultivating balance and inner peace.
